The Sego Charger is a new, foldable, origami-inspired solar panel designed to power smartphones, tablets, and laptops while traveling. When folded, the panel can fit into backpacks and large pockets but can still offer 25 watts of power when deployed in full sunlight. The Charger is assembled from monocrystalline solar cells and equipped with a tripod that facilitates optimal positioning on any terrain.
Sego Chargers’ robust hinges are capable of withstanding frequent folding and distribute weight evenly to ensure a durable connection between the components. Additionally, the solar panel is laminated with Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene, a fluorine-based plastic that provides maximum resistance not just to water but also to dust and debris. Solar Power Charger

The designers behind the Charger were intrigued by NASA’s exploration of origami techniques for space-based solar arrays. Translating this concept to a more down-to-Earth usage, they developed a weather-resistant charger ideal for backpacking and outdoor activities.
Sego will offer models ranging from 50-watt to over 400-watt panels, thus catering to various power demands from charging GPS and radio transmitters to portable fridges and heaters. The product was fully funded on Kickstarter in June 2023 and is now undergoing field testing. The team expects to ship out the first batch to customers in the second quarter of 2024.
